How to Take a Screenshot on a Macbook Pro

Five simple steps for how to take a screen shot on a Macbook Pro.


  1. Press shift + cmd + 4

Press shift + command + 4

A small target cross will appear on your screen.

Take the target to the top left corner of whatever you want to capture. Hold down the left click on the keypad and drag it out until you have the area you want to take a shot of highlighted within the target area.

2. Release the keypad and your photo will be saved to your desktop as a .png file.

3. Double click on the image and it will be opened by Preview.

4. Click on File then on Export.

5. In the popup give the screen shot a name and change the format from .Png to .Jpeg. The location will be desktop by default but if not or if you want to save it to a folder, type in the location you want and click Save.

The screen shot is now saved as a Jpeg file, ready for you to upload to your website.
